We are always trying to do our best to keep sustainability at the forefront at Earlywood. April is Earth Month and we wanted to give you an update on what we've been doing to keep up our eco-efforts!
The first thing we do is craft "buy-me-once" heirloom quality utensils. These kitchen tools will last generations and you won't be replacing them like cheap bargain utensils.
We also donate $1 from every order placed to the Nature Conservancy to restore the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil. To date we have donated $63,919.
Next, we use our scrap wood down to the dust. We use scrap to make blanks that are used for wooden pens and other small crafts. They are only 3/4" x 3/4" x 5" so we NEVER throw any wood away bigger than that.

A couple of years ago we purchased a briquette maker. You might guess that crafting our wooden utensils creates a significant amount of sawdust.

This impressive machine takes all our sawdust and transforms it into small, compact briquettes. These briquettes are an excellent eco-friendly option for fueling campfires, Solo Stoves, and cozy indoor fires. We are transforming what was once waste into a useful product. We give them away to locals, it's a win-win.
Check out thevideoexplaining what the machine does and how it does it.
But that's not all. We recently started using compostable mailers and the padded bubbles are made from cornstarch. We will continue to use the older ones, but they will be replaced with these overtime. They are good for the environment and they look great!
Thank you for being a part of our journey. Your support lets us keep doing what we love - making the highest quality wooden utensils and finding creative ways to stay green.
